Carcinogenesis is a complex in multi factorial process involving chronic inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction and epigenetic disruption. Nutrition, as well as dietary supplementation of individual nutrients and phytochemicals can influence the carcinogenic process. This presentation will review the hallmarks of carcinogenesis and then discuss key dietary interventions for reducing cancer risk, specifically colorectal cancer risk. Additionally, evidence-based nutritional co-management strategies will be addressed and several dietary supplements that are key to reducing colorectal cancer risk and mortality will be reviewed.
