WHY MUSHROOMS?

Medicinal mushrooms are one of the most researched classes of natural medicine. They have been used for millennia as a source of food and medicine, especially in traditional Chinese medicine.

They are rich in polysaccharides and polysaccharides–protein complexes that stimulate host immune responses.

Medicinal mushrooms have been predominantly used as adjuncts to various therapies. Medicinal mushrooms have also been studied for their beneficial effects on neurological and cognitive health.

Understanding their effects and mechanisms of action is important since mushrooms’ activity can vary greatly.

WHY NFH?

NFH Mushroom Products

WE KNOW MUSHROOMS

NFH offers the widest variety of mushroom extracts among professional-grade supplements sources. This enables you to address multiple therapeutic uses within the same product family, thereby retaining the highest quality standards and simplifying the overall process (see the full table in the guide for more info on the proposed uses).

NFH maitake mushroom farm

Sourcing directly from integrated farming & extraction providers for many years, our mushrooms consistently deliver the potency required while remaining pure and clean. Our NMR testing method guarantees the origin of our fruiting-body mushrooms (with exception of Agaricus Bisporus SAP and Cordyceps SAP where mycelium is used), thus confirming that our products are never adulterated with grains or fillers.

Developed in collaboration with MCG members Dr McKinney & Dr Traub, our internal R&D team poured over vast amounts of research in published peer-reviewed studies to select the best fungi while ensuring our formulations are pure and potent. This also gives you access to reliable dosing and optimal efficacy.

NFH’s Medicinal Mushroom guide and product line include:

Agaricus Bisporus SAP

Agaricus Bisporus SAP (White Button Mushroom)

Science-based immune support for optimal health

A hot water-extract from white button mushroom (WBM; Agaricus bisporus), the most commonly consumed mushroom in North America and most western countries.[1A. bisporus constitutes a significant amount of vitamin D precursor ergosterol, dietary fibers, and antioxidants including vitamin C and B12, folates and polyphenols.[1]

Agaricus Bisporus SAP:

  • Is a rich source of fungal polysaccharides and has potent immunomodulation properties [2,3]
  • Can help support the immune system and optimal health [3,4]

Chaga SAP

Science-based hot-water mushroom extract for optimal health and immune support

Known by its scientific classification as Inonotus obliquus. Chaga is parasitic on birch and other trees, and the conk presents as a mass of mycelium with the appearance of burnt charcoal, due to large amounts of melanin. Chaga is nutrient-dense, concentrated with polysaccharides, flavonoids, betulinic acid, polyphenols, minerals, enzymes, and several B vitamins, including pantothenic acid, riboflavin, and niacin. In vitro studies on chaga mushroom extract demonstrate antitumour, immunomodulating, gene-protective, and antiseptic activities.

Chaga SAP
Cordyceps SAP

Cordyceps SAP

Science-based immune support for optimal health

Used in herbal medicine to support the immune system and as a source of antioxidants. Cordyceps sinensis has traditionally been used for a variety of concerns including treating patients with fatigue, in athletics, for liver, kidney, and respiratory protection, as well as for immune support. The majority of the research focuses on the active ingredients in Cordyceps, including polysaccharides, lipids, cordycepin, and 3‑deoxyadenosine.

Coriolus Versicolor SAP (Turkey Tail)

Science-based hot-water mushroom extract for optimal health and immune support

Helps support healthy immune function and is a source of antioxidants. Coriolus versicolor is one of the most extensively researched of all the medicinal mushrooms. Two of the extracts within Coriolus versicolor are PSK and PSP, both of which have clinical trials on a variety of cancers including gastric/colorectal, lung, and breast cancers, with favorable results. Coriolus has also demonstrated immune activation on patients with chronic fatigue syndrome with improvements in NK-cell activity.

Coriolus versicolor SAP
Hericium Erinaceus SAP

Hericium Erinaceus SAP (Lion’s Mane)

Science-based hot-water mushroom extract for optimal health and immune support

Hericium erinaceus (HE) is also known by its common name, lion’s mane. Hericium erinaceus has been called “nature’s nutrient for the neurons” because of its ability to stimulate production of nerve growth factor (NGF). NGF plays an important role in both the central and peripheral nervous systems, and low levels have been associated with early stages of disorders such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Hericium erinaceus has also demonstrated a beneficial effect on gastric mucosa damage seen with ulcerations. Hericium erinaceus has a positive impact on immune health and can support a healthy immune response.

Maitake SAP

Science-based hot-water mushroom extract for optimal health and immune support

Its latin name is Grifola frondosa, but it is also known as “hen of the woods” or “king of mushrooms.” Maitake is an edible mushroom and has been consumed in Asia for thousands of years. Maitake is used in herbal medicine to support the immune system.

Maitake SAP
Reishi SAP

Reishi SAP

Science-based immune and stress support

A hot water-extract from the medicinal reishi mushroom, also known by its scientific name Ganoderma lucidum, which has been used in Japan for over 2000 years. This mushroom has been used as herbal medicine to help increase energy and resistance to stress. The reishi mushroom has also been used as a liver tonic as well as to support immune function. Reishi has properties that help support a healthy inflammatory response and exerts antioxidant properties.

Shiitake SAP

Science-based hot-water mushroom extract for optimal health and immune support

Shitake, also known as Lentinula edodes, is an edible mushroom that grows predominantly in Asia. Shiitake is the second most commonly consumed type of mushroom, but it also has several medicinal functions. Shiitake SAP can be used to help support healthy immune function and cardiovascular health, and is an excellent source of antioxidants. Further studies show that shiitake may help support the immune system in the management of various cancers, and may improve quality of life for patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Shiitake SAP
Mushroom Complex SAP

Mushroom Complex SAP

Science-based hot-water mushroom extract for optimal health and immune support

A synergistic blend of four hot water–extracted mushrooms: reishi, maitake, Coriolus versicolor, and shiitake. Each mushroom is a source of polysaccharides, which have immune-modulating properties and help support healthy immune function.

Mushroom Complex SAP has adaptogenic properties and can help improve energy and resistance to stress. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), mushrooms can be used to dispel phlegm, stop cough, and arrest wheezing. Mushroom Complex SAP may help stimulate both the innate and humoral immune systems.
