The incidence of cancer diagnoses increases with age. One in 5 people in the Western world are over the age of 65y and account for 60% of all cancer diagnoses. Not surprisingly, over half of all cancer survivors are over the age of 65y. Several factors underlie the increased cancer incidence in the elderly. These individuals also have unique cancer screening guidelines, treatment considerations and treatment toxicities. It is important to gain an appreciation of the unique support priorities and strategies for this elderly demographic.

- Understand why cancer is more common in older people

Lise Alschuler, ND, FABNO is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Arizona School of Medicine where she is on the faculty of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. She practices naturopathic oncology out of Naturopathic Specialists, LLC. Dr Alschuler co-hosts a radio show, Five To Thrive Live! and is co-founder of the iTHRIVE Plan, a lifestyle app for cancer survivors. She is co-author of Definitive Guide to Cancer, now in its 3rd edition, and Definitive Guide to Thriving After Cancer.
